MyOxford app student experience: Justin Xu

Justin Xu, a DPhil Clinical Medicine student at Keble College, shares his experience using the MyOxford app, launched in Michaelmas term 2024. He offers insights into its impact on student life, discussing the app’s ease of navigation, standout features, how it has shaped his daily routine, and why he believes fellow students should give it a try.

What’s your overall impression of the MyOxford student app?

Overall, it’s fantastic! The MyOxford app is incredibly useful, offering a centralized place for students to access essential resources and university-related information. Many top universities have similar apps, so it’s great to see Oxford embracing this modern approach to streamline student life. It feels like a well-rounded tool that simplifies staying connected with everything happening on campus.

How easy do you find it to navigate the app?

The navigation is straightforward. The app organizes information into clearly defined blocks, making it easy to find what you’re looking for. Features are divided between college-specific and university-wide functions, which helps keep everything tidy and accessible. This thoughtful structure means you can get to the right information or resource in just a few taps.

Are there any features you particularly like?

Definitely! One of the standout features is being able to check the college dining hall menu through a direct link to the website. Before, we’d have to scroll through emails to find the weekly menu, which was a hassle. Now, it’s all in one place, saving time and reducing frustration. It’s also great for a quick look at your calendar or accessing course materials on Canvas.

How has the MyOxford app impacted your daily routine?

The app has become a regular part of my day-to-day. I use it to check dining hall menus, skim my schedule, and quickly connect with departmental resources. It’s especially helpful for keeping tabs on course-related updates through Canvas without switching between multiple platforms.

Why should other students use MyOxford?

I’d recommend giving it a try! It doesn’t hurt, and it might turn out to be super useful for keeping track of everything in one place. Having a central hub of information is a huge time-saver and helps you stay organized, which every student can benefit from.
