Students help nominate Oxford's new Vice-Chancellor
For the first time in Oxford's history, students formed part of the nominating committee to elect the University's new Vice-Chancellor. Devika was one of them, and writes about her experience.
"I am privileged to have had the opportunity to represent students in the nomination of a person, who is this crucial to our University. That too, for the first time in its very long history. It was a wonderful and enlightening experience to understand the sheer hard work, insights and knowledge that goes into the process.
The committee and the candidates were very encouraging of the student opinion, which was promising for us and for all the future student representatives who will have the privilege to sit on this committee eventually.
We were fortunate to have an extremely well-deserving pool of candidates. I am pleased with the committee's decision not simply because Professor Tracey is a perfectly qualified candidate but most importantly because of how ardently she spoke of climate change, mental health, and the student experience.
Her dedication, pride and belief in the student body, reaffirmed my support for the committee’s decision and I eagerly look forward to what Professor Tracey will bring to the University as its next Vice-Chancellor."
