Supporting successful student journeys step by step

Crankstart at Oxford

The Crankstart Foundation now supports students from disadvantaged and underrepresented backgrounds at Oxford at every step of the student journey.

Crankstart was established in 2012 through a generous donation from Sir Michael Moritz and Ms Harriet Heyman. One of the most generous undergraduate bursaries in the UK, Crankstart provides enhanced financial assistance to 17% of UK undergraduate students from lower-income households during their time at Oxford, and includes access to exclusive funded internships and volunteering opportunities.

Crankstart funds a wide range of Oxford projects: supporting outreach to school students from the age of 14; providing transition support for students starting university or moving into graduate study; providing financial assistance for on-course UK undergraduates; providing further scholarships to enable undergraduate Crankstart Scholars to continue their study at Oxford for either Masters or doctoral courses; and funding Academic Futures graduate scholarships to support those from underrepresented or disadvantaged backgrounds.

BeUNIQ

For 14-16 year olds, BeUNIQ fosters academic confidence and self-efficacy, thereby supporting educational aspirations. This bespoke engagement programme aims to reach beyond schools and collaborate with organisations working with the wider local community. BeUNIQ leads naturally to participation on UNIQ.

UNIQ

Offering around 1,300 places each year, the majority including a residential in Oxford, UNIQ is our flagship outreach programme for UK state school students in their first year of higher education. It also supports the continuation of the exciting academic journeys begun on BeUNIQ.

Opportunity Oxford

This academic bridging programme prepares UK offer holders from underrepresented backgrounds for a great start to their university studies at Oxford by developing high-level academic skills, supporting their transition to student life, and ensuring they arrive confident and familiar with what to expect.

UNIQ+

Launched in 2019, the programme offers students from underrepresented and disadvantaged backgrounds the opportunity to experience graduate study at Oxford and receive a range of skills training and information sessions.
