Fundraising
The University seeks to protect and grow its income streams by diversifying income sources and pursuing an ambitious development strategy which seeks to fund core long-term academic activities. A key source of income is fundraising, led by the Development and Alumni Engagement office.
Development and Alumni Engagement (DAE)
DAE is helping to generate philanthropic donations, in support of the University’s strategic priorities.
The generosity of donors helps us to ensure that the most talented students can study here regardless of their background, that our research provides benefit on an international scale and that our expertise is brought to bear on some of the world’s biggest challenges.
Recent achievements include:
A generous donation from the Uehiro Foundation on Ethics and Education for the study of practical ethics has been received. This support has endowed the Uehiro Institute for Practical Ethics and brings together researchers from across the disciplines to answer ethical questions concerning some of the biggest issues of our time.
Donors have supported a range of academic posts and research programmes across all areas of the University. Examples include the endowment of a professorship in paediatric oncology; funding for a new centre to boost the learning and teaching of Chinese; research into human lactation; and support to improve the quality and understanding of climate coverage in journalism and media around the world.
The Gardens, Libraries and Museums at Oxford have benefitted from support including a significant legacy gift to the Ashmolean Museum for the Heberden Coin Room, and the endowment of the Head of Conservation and Heritage Science at the Bodleian Libraries.
