Library and IT services

The college library is one of the newest libraries at Oxford, and is undergoing change – the collection is continually being expanded and it is also being catalogued, with books added almost daily to the University’s integrated library catalogue (SOLO) to facilitate finding items.

The collection covers a broad range of subjects with particular strengths in historical architecture, archaeology, landscape and garden history, interior design and finishing, good coverage of local and medieval history, and of aspects of English and French literature.

Members of Kellogg College have 24-hour access to the collection, which is reference only.

The college site has full Wi-Fi coverage, allowing easy access to the University network. Study-bedrooms on the college site are equipped for wireless access. There are several network points and desktop workstations around the college for students to use while studying and some hot-desking spaces. The college operates a central printing service allowing printing from anywhere on site. A scanner/copier facility is also available. Study spaces within the college are usually available 24 hours a day.

Sport, music and college facilities

The college’s Sport, Recreation, and Wellbeing Committee provides support for both established college sports and new initiatives such as croquet and squash. Kellogg’s student community provides a number of members for prestigious University ‘Blues’ teams including rugby, rowing and hockey, with students representing the University in sports as diverse as ju jitsu and mountaineering. The college has an affiliation with the Christ Church Boat Club to offer opportunities to row at all levels and fields a football team in the University’s MCR league.

Other activities at Kellogg include drama, film screenings, yoga, concerts, wine tastings, dancing and trips to places of interest. The college hosts many varied events throughout the year including Bletchley Park Week celebrating its links with the home of code-breaking, a popular Burns Night ceilidh, special themed dinners, and fascinating lectures. A highlight is the annual Summer Ball run by the MCR.

The college is home to a number of research centres which contribute to the college's academic life. Seminar speakers include college fellows, visiting experts from around the world, and students. The college also hosts a regular colloquium and Graduate Symposium, offering students the opportunity to share their research and receive feedback.

Events are run throughout the year. As the collegiate home for many part-time students with work and family commitments, the college is particularly sensitive to the need for flexibility in scheduling, as a result some events are held at weekends and during vacation periods. The college has also greatly expanded provision for online events to enable engagement from around the world.

With a large number of non-resident members, the college makes a considerable effort to keep students informed about events and developments at college so that they can keep in touch with the community and enjoy events wherever they are in the world. The termly calendar of events is published well in advance to help with planning and the college is active on social media.

Facilities for disabled students

The college’s main buildings are wheelchair accessible. Specially-adapted student accommodation is available on the college site. There are large monitors and adjustable desks for students to use.

Once a student has been accepted, the college will be pleased to support them and try to meet any specific requirements arising from a disability, specific learning difficulty or medical condition. Please contact the college about any accessibility requirements.

MCR

The college has an active Middle Common Room (MCR). The MCR Committee is made up of full-time and part-time students who work to provide support and events for all students in the college. The MCR is involved with welcoming new and returning students each term, runs a programme of social, welfare and sporting events each term, and is engaged through student representatives in the governance of the college.
