Join Oriel's Outreach Officer and Oriel College PhD students to learn top tips for researching and writing an independent essay. Topics covered will include where to look for information, how to take good notes, how to write a clear essay plan, and how to produce a bibliography. The session is designed to improve academic confidence and independence more generally, but will also be beneficial for students interested in entering our Rex Nettleford Essay Prize. This is Oriel College's essay prize for Year 12 students, which challenges entrants to produce an essay of up to 2500 words on a topic related to colonial history.

A recording of the support session will be shared with students who signed up after the event. The deadline for signing up is 12pm on 9 January. In the case of oversubscription, students from non-selective state schools will be prioritised.

The deadline for the competition is 10am on 21 February. More information about this year's questions can be found on the Oriel College website.

For any further questions about the session, please get in touch with Carys at [email protected].
