Did Oxford feel like home? What a question! I think it provides a different sense of comfort. The comfort that Oxford provides is often a comfort of, like, I can be my kind of full academic self, I can explore the topics I want to explore; there's so much there's so many events going on, like I'm literally meeting people on a day-to-day basis that come from all four corners of the world (well, maybe the world has more more than four corners, I don't know). I love sport but I also love, you know, African history and I also love music, you know, and it's nice to be in a space where I feel like all those parts of my personality and interest can be not just, like, accepted but generally respected and engaged with. In a few words, UNIQ is essentially a summer school that brings together people from across the UK that are from backgrounds that are typically underrepresented here at Oxford, and gives them an opportunity to see what Oxford is like, what their subject is like at Oxford, and yeah hopefully give them a bit of a push to make an application. For me it was just the kind of thing that opened my eyes to seeing that someone like me - just a normal person who who, like, actually just is interested in, you know, history and likes speaking French - could actually come here and thrive and enjoy my life here. It's an opportunity to see, 'Okay, is this a place where I could be or couldn't be?' and it allows you to make a more informed choice. I don't think there's really any reason not to apply.
