Hi, my name is Juliane Kerkhecker. I'm looking after the Greek and Latin language teaching here in the Faculty of Classics at Oxford. I'm going to speak to you a little about the aptitude test that you are going to sit when you're applying to study Classics or Classics and another subject, a joint school here at Oxford. First, there are lots and lots of past papers on our website. I recommend very strongly that you have a look at these past papers. These past papers on the website come with solutions, so that might be useful so you can check whether you've got it right. There's no need to do all of them, but some practice will be useful. Second, this year you will take your test online. That means it's a bit different from the past papers, as in you will have to do your answers on a screen. But the online test will in principle still be like the past papers in format and content. For your online test, once you’re in the test centre, I recommend very strongly that the first thing you do is you look through your test and see what your tasks are. Third, our aptitude test comes in two different shapes. You take one type if you have Greek and Latin from school. For that I recommend a couple of things that you might want to do when you sit this test. For the translation, when you've got Greek and Latin from school, you should read the introduction very carefully to each text that you translate, because the introduction tells you what the text is all about. I would suggest you read the introduction twice. I tend to not notice everything in reading things only once in the test. Then I recommend you read the whole text once. That doesn't mean that you understand everything in the text when you're reading it once, but it gives you an idea. And then notice the vocab help at the end of the text. Do not overlook the vocab help. If you come and learn Latin and Greek with us, you take a different kind of aptitude test. And for that test, I suggest very strongly you read through the whole test paper once and look at what questions you're going to get and then get started. It's really important for both tests to attempt everything that you see and that you have a go at every question. Last, if you're entitled to any access arrangements, please make sure that you sign up for those when you register for the test. And now, best of luck with your test.
