Oxplore: The Home of Big Questions
Oxplore is an innovative digital outreach portal from the University of Oxford. It aims to engage those from 11 to 18 years old with debates and ideas that go beyond what is covered in the classroom. Big questions tackle complex ideas across a wide range of subjects and draw on the latest research undertaken at Oxford. Oxplore aims to realise aspirations, promote broader thinking and stimulate intellectual curiosity.
Staircase 12
Staircase 12 is an online hub of resources developed by University College Oxford for students aiming high at school and thinking about applying to top universities. You'll find plenty of resources to help students develop their interests, book reviews from current undergraduates to give ideas about where to start 'reading around' the subject, ideas for stretching students beyond the school syllabus.
For Teachers
Teacher’s webpages
Choosing where to go to university can be a life-changing decision and whilst this is exciting it can also be daunting. We hugely value the supporting role that teachers and careers advisors can play in encouraging students to consider their options and make informed decisions.
The University of Oxford’s webpages for teachers aim to give you all the information you need to help your students. We encourage you to explore our website widely but hope that you will find the resources here particularly useful. We welcome the chance to talk with teachers and advisers about supporting your students through all aspects of considering, and applying to, Oxford.
Ignite - Oxford’s free careers education programme for schools
Ignite is a career confidence programme for schools and colleges from Oxford University Careers Service. It aims to help develop pupils’ assertiveness and confidence in academic, extra-curricular, family, social and eventual career activities.
The programme is aimed at secondary school pupils (ages 11-18) and to be delivered within the school by teachers / PSHE tutors. It is available in modules to be applied and used as appropriate.
Teachers' newsletter
This University e-newsletter features updates about our admissions process, events that teachers and students can attend, and updates regarding our access and widening participation programmes, including UNIQ. Feedback from teachers has been very positive, with many reporting that they forward the email to students interested in applying to Oxford.
Digital Schools Access Programme – Years 10-13
Our digital outreach has increased significantly since the Covid-19 pandemic and we hope to continue utilising this going forward. Digital events offered so far include:
- Information and Guidance sessions – advice on applying to university
- Essay writing webinars

If we are not already working with your school, either digitally or in person, please do get in touch with the Oxford Cymru team to enquire about how we may able to support you.
Online programmes are NOT intended to replace in-person events in the long term. However, they will provide an essential additional support mechanism, enabling the Oxford Cymru team to reach a wider and larger cohort of learners in a more efficient and cost-effective way.
Oxford Cymru Updates
Oxford Cymru use a number of different ways of keeping schools up to date regarding outreach opportunities in Wales, including scheduled visits and activities.
- Keep up to date with all the latest news about undergraduate admissions, open days and outreach events, or have your questions answered at @OxOutreach.
- Also encourage your students to follow us on Instagram: @studyatoxford.
For Families
Oxford Cymru recognise that not all applicants will have the support of a parent, carer or family member. Although the information refers to parents and children, it will be helpful for anyone providing a supporting role to an applicant – for example, an estranged student or a mature applicant with little or no previous experience of university. The Oxford Cymru team welcome enquiries from those guiding or supporting an applicant so please do get in touch with us if you have any questions.
Supporting university choices
If your child is studying for their A levels, they are probably already thinking about their next steps. It’s not always easy for parents to know how best to help them navigate their options. We have written a guide and website pages to give you as much information as possible about studying at Oxford University - especially how your son or daughter can choose their course, and then make the strongest possible application. We want you to know that students are in safe hands at Oxford, so we have given details of all the support we offer, both during their time here, and after they have graduated.
University website
There is a lot more information about what it is like to study at Oxford and the university applications process on our undergraduate admissions and access webpages . This covers everything from 360* tours of Oxford colleges to videos of undergraduates and recent UNIQ students.
