Professor Andrew Wilson
About
Professor Wilson’s research interests include the economy of the Roman Empire, ancient technology, ancient water supply and usage, Roman North Africa and archaeological field survey.
He is co-director of the the Oxford Roman Economy Project (OxREP), and the Coin Hoards of the Roman Empire project. He is also leads the Endangered Archaeology in North Africa and the Middle East project, using satellite imagery to assess archaeological sites under increasing threat from massive and sustained population explosion, agricultural development, urban expansion, warfare, and looting.
He has excavated and studied ancient water systems in Italy, Morocco, Tunisia, Libya, Syria, and Cyprus, and is currently involved in excavations at Aphrodisias (Turkey) and Utica (Tunisia).
