Partnership Awards
Clarendon has many valued partners throughout Oxford and beyond, who through their generous support, enable us to fund as many as 40 additional scholarships each year.
The Clarendon Fund works in collaboration with a range of other funders, including colleges, academic departments and divisions, University trust funds, and external organisations whose generous contributions help fund additional scholarships by allowing us to spread the costs between multiple sources. For the 2024-25 cohort Clarendon is collaborating with over 250 partnership awards providing an additional £9.1m to support new scholars. Every year, the majority of Clarendon scholars are funded by Clarendon and one or more of our partners. In the 2023-24 cohort 57% of scholars received college partnership awards worth to over £3.16m all together.
After acceptance of a Clarendon scholarship, the process of creating tailored funding packages begins. The Clarendon Fund Administrator will review and match new scholars with suitable partnership awards depending on eligibility requirements. No further information will be required of candidates in order to be considered for these awards. Some scholars may need to transfer colleges in order to take up a partnership award, however this will be handled by the Clarendon Fund Administrator by liaising with the colleges as required.
During this period, the scholarship is secure and we guarantee that the total value of the award will not decrease as a result of the inclusion of any partnership awards. The majority of scholars will receive some form of partnership funding and most will have a funding package unique to them. Awards comprising partnership funding are also co-named, to recognise the partner's contribution. Once the funding package is confirmed, applicants will be sent a Clarendon funding breakdown letter (aka a'CB2') outlining the funding arrangements.
The below endowed scholarships are managed by the University and are awarded in conjunction with the Clarendon Fund in the years when they are to be offered.
CHK Charities Scholarship
The CHK scholarships are available for applicants applying to any full-time or part-time graduate course, excluding PGCerts and PGDips. The scholarships have been made possible through the support of the CHK Foundation. The Charity's objects are to promote and support charities and charitable activities, as selected at the discretion of the Trustees.
Helmore Graduate Scholarship
The Helmore Graduate scholarships are available for applicants applying to any full-time graduate course. The scholarships were established in 1996 upon the death of Lady Margaret Eleanor Helmore to support graduate study at Oxford.
Hilla Ginwala Scholarship
The Hilla Ginwala scholarships are available for applicants who are nationals of India and who are applying to any full-time graduate course. All subjects will be considered, although there is a preference for modern languages. The scholarship was set up in memory of Mrs Hilla Ginwala by her husband Mr Peston Padamji Ginwala. Mr Ginwala was a noted Indian barrister who studied at Balliol from 1937 to 1939, and wanted to help Indian students who shared Mrs Ginwala's love of learning.
Ismene Fitch Scholarship
The Ismene Fitch scholarships are available for applicants who are ordinarily resident in Greece and who are applying to any full-time graduate course. The scholarship is only tenable at either Wolfson College or St Antony’s College only. All eligible applicants will be considered, regardless of which college (if any) you state as your preference on the graduate application form. However, successful applicants will be transferred to either of the stated Colleges in order to take up the scholarship.
Pirie-Reid
The Pirie-Reid scholarships are available for applicants who are ordinarily resident in or educated in Scotland and who are applying to any full-time or part-time graduate course, with the exception of PFCerts and PGDips.
Pirie-Reid is a small trust fund which is used for scholarships benefitting Scottish educated students or students who are ordinarily resident in Scotland coming to Oxford. Since the death of Mrs Constance Pirie-Reid in 1975, the trust has funded scholarships in memory of her husband.
Soudavar Fund
The Soudavar Fund scholarships are available for applicants who are ordinarily resident in Iran, or who are ordinarily resident in a country which is categorised as Other Low Income Countries or Least Developed Countries on the DAC List of ODA Recipients. This list can be found here. The scholarships are available for applicants applying to any full-time graduate course.
The Soudavar Fund was founded in memory of Alireza and Mohammad (Mamadi) Soudavar, who both died while still in their 30s. The Fund aims to reflect their kindliness and generosity by supporting students from Iran or the developing world in their studies. The Soudavar Fund is a University trust fund and was created in 1986 through an endowed gift to the University by the Soudavar family.
