About

Dr Sugandha Srivastav is a British Academy Postdoctoral Fellow and lecturer in Environmental Economics at the Smith School of Enterprise and the Environment. She is also the Energy and Economic Policy lead of CCG Oxford, a Senior Research Fellow at INET Oxford and an associate of the Economics Department. 

Dr Srivastav’s research focuses on bringing clean technologies to market, exploring the role of contracts in the power sector, and policies for climate mitigation in the Global South. She has received international recognition for her research on solar power, winning the CESifo Distinguished Research Affiliate Prize in 2023 and an honourable mention at the E-Axes 2023 Research Prize forum. She has published in notable journals such as Science, Nature Climate Change, and Oxford Review of Economic Policy. Dr Srivastav is the recipient of the prestigious British Academy Postdoctoral Fellowship, a highly competitive grant that is offered to outstanding researchers to develop their pipeline of work. 

Dr Srivastav’s work has been referenced in news outlets such as The Guardian and the Financial Times, she has done a TEDx talk on the history of solar innovation, and given advice to the UK Parliament on solar policy. She was also invited to be a judge for UChicago’s Market Shaping Accelerator led by Nobel Laureate, Michael Kremer (which aims to bring novel low-carbon technologies to market). 

She is a top 5 author at The Conversation (as of July 2024).

Prior to academia, Dr Srivastav worked as an environmental and energy economist at Vivid Economics and ICRIER (Indian Council for Research on International Economic Relations) advising governments, private firms, and international organisations on a broad range of issues related to climate, energy, innovation, and natural resource management. 

She holds a DPhil in Environmental Economics from the University of Oxford, an MSc in Economics from LSE and a BSc. (Hons) from the University of Warwick. Dr Srivastav is originally from India but has also lived in Fiji Islands, Myanmar, Indonesia, Hong Kong, China and Italy before moving the UK.
