Alice's Day at Oxford Botanic Garden

Saturday 6 July

See the Walled Garden transformed into a magical Wonderland as the Mad Hatter and March Hare return for the annual celebrations of Alice's Day. Join WhatNot Theatre for a fizzing new adventure and take a tumbling down the rabbit hole to find our absurd Hatter and Hare still sipping tea and swapping seats. Encounter other curious creatures including the grinning Cheshire Cat, the furious Queen of Hearts, a nervous White Rabbit, a ridiculous Dodo and a questionable Lobster. Take a blanket, a picnic (Hatter particularly enjoys jam sandwiches) and your curiosity.

Curious Adventures in Nature Smartphone Workshop

Saturday 6 July

Multi-disciplinary contemporary artist Graham Fudger will explain how to use your smartphone camera to capture and manipulate exquisite images of nature that explore colour, texture and light. The workshop will begin with a session in the Museum of Natural History where Graham will outline his approach to finding aesthetic value in nature. Participants can then explore University Parks, taking photos of their surroundings, including an opportunity to learn how to use time-lapse and plant identifier apps. The workshop will conclude back at the Museum.

Inspired! Literary, Film and TV connections at Pitt Rivers Museum

Inspector Morse, Star Wars, His Dark Materials...what connections do these famous books, films and television series have to Pitt Rivers Museum? Learn how local authors Philip Pullman, Colin Dexter and more recently crime fiction writer Cara Hunter were inspired by the Museum and its artefacts. Discover what links some of the objects to key elements of Harry Potter’s quest to destroy his arch-enemy Lord Voldemort and uncover what influences cultural artefacts have had on character design and weaponry in George Lucas’s Star Wars!
