The Enterlude of Godly Queen Hester

2025 marks 500 years since the foundation of Christ Church by Cardinal Wolsey, as Cardinal College, in 1525. The play, written in 1529 about the Old Testament Queen Esther, is also a political satire on Thomas Wolsey, hence the connection with Christ Church. It will be preceded by an introductory lecture explaining the historical context from Professor Elisabeth Dutton. Originally, the play would have been performed by a boys’ company so it is appropriate that it will be staged by Edward’s Boys company, from King Edward VI School, Stratford-upon-Avon.
