Some people attend Evensong for spiritual reasons: prayer, reflection and worship. Others join us simply to enjoy a peaceful hour where they can relax whilst surrounded by beautiful religious music from across the centuries. Many tourists and University visitors choose to attend Evensong as a part of the quintessential 'Oxford experience'.

Whatever your faith background, and whatever your reason for visiting St Peter's, you are welcome. The services are short, consisting mainly of choral music, scripture readings and prayers. Pamphlets with details of how you can (if you choose to) participate in the congregational aspects of the service are given at the door. There is no dress code.

Evensong services in the St Peter's College Chapel are according to the rites of the Church of England. The services are typically led by the Chaplain and the College Choir and include sung liturgy, Bible readings, prayers, a choir anthem or motet and a congregational hymn.

On Sundays during term time, preachers from different Christian traditions deliver short sermons, and refreshments are served after the service. The Sunday service begins at 6pm and lasts approximately one hour.

The Thursday service has no sermon and starts at 6.15pm, lasting approximately 45 minutes.
